At The Beech Academy we are committed to providing a purposeful and empowering curriculum that fully prepares learners for the next steps in their school career, as well as the challenges of the wider world. A curriculum in which core literacy and numeracy skills are at the heart of all we do and in which children are engaged and excited to learn. The curriculum is designed to recognise children’s prior learning, provide first hand learning experiences, allow the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers. Our curriculum embraces the community in which it is situated, recognising local history, heritage, geographical and business links and most importantly, the aspirations of all our children. We place strong emphasis on the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all our pupils and our school is part of The Evolve Trust which has identified a clear set of values that underpin everything we do.
Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our school community. The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values. We constantly provide an array of enrichment opportunities to engage learning and believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge. Our curriculum is to support the pupils to turn 'I cant into I can!’
At the Beech Academy, each pupils has a bespoke journey to ensure they have an ambitious future. Our Scholarship road maps are a visual tool to represent this journey across each of our provisions and any young person who joins the Academy has a clear set of pledges that they work to so we ensure they graduate at the end of the year. We also pride ourselves on Character Education so all students have access and thrive in leading specific aspects across the Academy. You will see our road maps in the reception areas of both sites. Do take the time to look at our journey.
Promoting British values through the curriculum:
Schools should promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
Through the provision of SMSC teaching at our school we:
At the Beech Academy:
Democracy is promoted through our school council and pupil questionnaires.
Visits from authorities such as the police are used to reinforce this e.g. Helping students understand what ‘Hate Crime’ is
The importance of the rule of law. The school ethos and behaviour policy revolve around 'integrity' as a core value, and discussions and assemblies focus on what respect and integrity means and how it is shown.
Citizenship: Pupils are encouraged to understand their personal rights and freedoms, and are advised on how to exercise these safely. Topics such as equal rights, and e-safety will be taught.
Spirituality and Religious Education (RE): Lessons reinforce messages of tolerance and respect for others.
History and Geography: Pupils analyse events in UK and world history where British values have been tested such as both World Wars. In geography, pupils could look at how different cultures live and work throughout the world.
All of the above is woven within our Beech Academy Scholarship at all three of our provisions.
