This year the Scott Foster Award has been presented to Bailey Smeaton from the Specialist Provision. Bailey joined Beech Academy in Year 9, before the Specialist Provision moved to the Westfield Site. Bailey has had some very difficult times but has overcome his anxiety to make the most of every opportunity, playing in school sports teams, being a reliable worker at The British Heart Foundation as part of his extended work experience and taking a lead role in activities at Wesfield. In amongst his 8 qualifications at GCSE level, Bailey achieved the highest Maths GCSE grade any pupil at Beech has ever gained – a level 5. Bailey’s photography is amazing, and he has passed his CBT moped test and survived the Download festival (twice) during his time at Beech. Bailey shows great resilience and endeavour in everything he does. Next year Bailey will be following a Level 2 Art and Design course at Retford College where we know he will continue to do fantastic things. The artwork included in this article is part of Bailey’s GCSE Photography portfolio, entitled ‘Identity’.
