Roy was born in Derbyshire. In his early twenties, he moved to live in Pleasley and worked in Teversal. He moved to Mansfield in 1979. He has worked in the agricultural and care sectors and latterly the coal mining industry where he held a variety of posts before training/studying to eventually become a safety engineer.
Roy has been involved in governance since the 1960’s. His first experience of being a governor was during the period his children were in the education system. He became a governor again when his grandchildren attended school. Over the years he has witnessed first-hand the changes within the education system and the changing demands on governors.
Roy has always been heavily involved in the community and voluntary sectors in his spare time. He was involved with the St John’s Ambulance for 27 years and became a Divisional Officer. He was a Union Official for many years including being Chairman of the regional section and he has worked as a Scout Leader.
Roy is the Vice Chair of the Beech Academy Local Governing Body and Link Governor for Behaviour, Anti-Bullying and Exclusion
