World Book Day

The Beech Academy in Mansfield fully engaged with Literacy around World Book Day. A number of activities took place for students with a focus on engaging them with reading and creative writing. An assembly took place where the purposes around World Book Day were explained and activities outlined to students which included- Students being supported to buy reading books with tokens from a local book shop; Year 10 writing short stories for a ‘Mini Saga’ competition; Students being read creative stories by an older student dressed as Alice in Wonderland. Mr O’Malley (Head of School) said- “It is important that students enjoy reading and understand the benefits it can bring. We have a focus on developing student’s literacy as part of one of the key skills they will need to become independent in the future.”
